Operation Christmas Child (OCC)
On Friday, 29th November, a group of ten Sixth Form students, accompanied by Mrs. Curtis and organised by Assistant Chaplain Adam Bignell, visited the Operation Christmas Child (OCC) regional packing centre in Tonbridge. This trip was a valuable opportunity for our students to demonstrate leadership and service, and they represented the school exceptionally well.
Throughout the morning, students actively participated in checking, filling, labelling, and sorting shoeboxes destined for children across Central Asia. It was inspiring to see the scale of the operation, with the centre processing an impressive 5,000 boxes per day. We learned that the previous day’s shipment was bound for Belarus, while today’s boxes were headed to Moldova, and Trinity’s contribution specifically went to Kazakhstan.
Assigned to various stations, teams of five worked diligently over three hours, helping to pack a total of 1,750 boxes by the end of the morning - all with Christmas music providing a festive boost! Remarkably, we were proud to hear that Trinity’s donation was the single largest in the whole of Kent, a testament to the generosity and commitment of our school community.
This experience deepened our understanding of the Operation Christmas Child project, offering a powerful insight into the global impact of these shoeboxes. It was a humbling reminder of how small acts of service can make a tangible difference in the lives of children worldwide, and our students left with a renewed sense of purpose and compassion. We look forward to returning next year!
