Job Pathway: Teacher Training Programme

Our teacher training sets you on the path to becoming an excellent teacher. One who will inspire the next generation to succeed.

We have partnered with Teach Kent & Sussex to offer an 11-month intensive teacher training programme, where you can be placed at our school.

Here are five reasons why you should join our teaching training programme:

  • Train in one school: You’ll do most of your training one school, which could be Trinity School. This gives you immediate opportunities to put the theory you’ve learned into practice in a classroom, supported by expert teachers.
  • Be guided by a fully trained mentor: To ensure you’re supported throughout your training; we match you with an experienced teacher who will guide you every step of the way.
  • Benefit from blended learning: You’ll get the high-quality academic training you'd expect to get from a university combined with immersive, classroom learning.
  • Become a qualified teacher. After successfully completing the programme, you’ll achieve qualified teacher status (QTS), and a postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) enabling you to start your career in teaching right away.
  • Earn a decent salary. Teachers earn a starting salary of at least £31,000, with head teachers earning upwards of £120,000 in some schools. Teachers are also entitled to a substantial pension and generous holidays.

To be eligible, you will need:

  • GCSE 4/C or above in Maths and English (and Science if training in Primary),  or equivalent.
  • An undergraduate bachelor's degree with honours, generally 2:2 or above, or equivalent.

Option of part-time training: A part-time option is also available over two years, but not all partner schools are able to offer this option.

About the PE Department

At Trinity School, the Physical Education department is a passionate, collaborative, and forward-thinking team committed to developing physically literate, socially confident, and independent learners. We aim to inspire students to understand and value the importance of leading an active and healthy lifestyle, recognising the wide-ranging physical, mental, and social benefits of lifelong participation in physical activity.

The department has a strong culture of high expectations and inclusive practice, with a focus on maximising student engagement and achievement. We offer a broad and ambitious curriculum, complemented by an extensive extracurricular programme, and regularly compete in local, regional, and national competitions across sports such as rugby, netball, and football. Participation in sport continues to grow across the school, and we are committed to sustaining this through innovative, creative, and inclusive sporting opportunities.

Academically, the department has recently transitioned to the NCFE Health and Fitness qualification at Key Stage 4. At Key Stage 5, we deliver the highly popular BTEC National Extended Certificate and BTEC National Diploma in Sport, supporting students in progressing to further education and careers within the sports industry. Experience of delivering these qualifications would be advantageous, though not essential.

About You

You will be committed to the development and progress of students, able to facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential and you will be the sort of person who enjoys a collaborative team working style, relishes a challenge and is resilient.  We are interested in hearing from candidates who are either newly qualified, or have 2 – 3 years’ experience of teaching PE with a proven track record of success.  It is an advantage to be able to teach A Level PE, but this isn’t essential.

The post is predominantly PE, however, there may be a requirement for another subject specialism, at least for the first year.
